Chapel of Saint Pius X

Chapel of Saint Pius X

The Chapel of Saint Pius X is located on the crypt level of the Basilica and is on the right side as you face the crypt church. It is located immediately off of the Memorial Hall.

The following text can be found on the kneeler in the front of this chapel.

Pope Pius X, born Joseph Sarto, was elected to the papacy on August 4, 1903. He chose as the motto of his pontificate: "To restore all things in Christ." As Universal Pastor of the Church he displayed untiring self-sacrifice and great energy; he was an intrepid defender of the purity of Christian doctrine. Realizing the full value of the liturgy as the prayer of the Church as well as the solid basis which it furnishes for the devotion of the Christian people, he worked for the restoration of the worship of the Church, especially plainchants, so that the Christian people, as he put it, might find beauty in their public prayer. He spared no effort to propagate the practice of early frequent, and daily communion. During his pontificate the saintly Pope Pius X sent his approval, encouraging the idea of building a Shrine to Our Blessed Mother in the United States. On July 8, 1914 he wrote: " How highly we esteem this project we need not say, since nothing could be more useful to the Church or further more helpfully the welfare of the Republic."

Gift of the Diocesan Directory of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine.

The chapel was dedicated on May 1, 1962.

Father

to defend the Catholic faith

and to make all things new in Christ

you filled St. Pius X

with heavenly wisdom and apostolic courage.

May his example and teaching

lead us to the reward of eternal life.

Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ Your Son

who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit

one God forever and ever.

Amen

Located on the front wall of the chapel is this inscription:

"To Restore all things in Christ

Give us this

day our daily bread."
